Aerospace

Aircraft

Significant investments in R&D have helped make Canada a world leader in aerospace products, ranking in the top countries for civil aircraft, engines and flight simulators. Solutions that government buyers are looking for include:

  • Aircraft manufacturing (fixed wing, rotary)
  • Maintenance, repair and overhaul services
  • Training systems
  • Satellites

Canadian aerospace and aviation companies can sell their solutions to foreign governments through our International Prime Contractor program or to the U.S. military through our U.S. DoD Prime Contractor program.

Case study – Viking Air

Aided by a government to government (G2G) contract with CCC, Viking Air Ltd., signed a $65-million (U.S.) contract to sell 12 Twin Otters to the government of PeruViking Air also sold a DHC-6 Series 400 Twin Otter aircraft with pilot training and flight simulation to Argentina’s Federal Police through a G2G contract. 

Case study – Cascade Aerospace

Through the U.S. DoD Prime Contractor program, Cascade Aerospace was awarded a contract (valued up to USD $45 million) with the U.S. Air Force for the installation of critical upgrades to C-130J cargo aircraft. 

Case study – Bombardier

We signed a contract with Biman Bangladesh Airlines, for the purchase of three new Bombardier Q400 turboprop aircraft. This will allow the national carrier to increase its domestic connectivity and services to neighboring countries. 

Case study – Bell Helicopter

The government of Montenegro purchased three helicopters from Bell Helicopter (now Bell Textron) through a CCC G2G contract. The aircraft are used to support land and sea activities, search and rescue operations, medical evacuations and to patrol Montenegro’s borders and territory.

Case study – Field Aviation

We helped Field Aviation navigate the complex U.S. DoD purchasing  rules to support the sale of seven Dash 8 Maritime patrol aircrafts to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Clean technologies

Case study – Terragon

With a vision to make everything from remote military bases to resorts and cruise ships as environmentally self-sustainable as possible, Terragon Environmental Technologies won a contract with the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) to deploy its prototype waste and water management technology in the field as a single, integrated system.

Case study – CowaterSogema

Cowater International in association with Sogema Technologies and with the support from CCC, won a $58 million USD contract with the Barbados Water Authority (BWA) for the installation of 98,800 household water Smart Meters. 

MOU – Canadian Solar Institute

Sri Lanka Ministry of Power and Energy, and Business Development signed an agreement to construct a 100 megawatt floating solar park. This was made possible due to CCC, and a joint venture that includes Canadian Solar Institute.

MOU – Government of Pakistan

In 2017 we signed a memorandum of understanding with the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan to set up 1,000 megawatts of solar power capacity. While this particular project was not fully realized, it demonstrates the services we provide to help Canadian companies succeed in the international market. 

Infrastructure

International infrastructure projects continue to present compelling opportunities for Canadian firms. The pandemic has accelerated the shift to public–private partnership financing models, requiring Canadian companies to think differently about what they offer and how to set their value proposition apart. Solutions that government buyers are looking for include:

  • Water and waste water infrastructure
  • Power and communications
  • Transportation (airports, railroads)
  • Social (hospitals, schools, housing)

Canadian businesses can request Government of Canada advocacy for their international infrastructure and construction projects through our International Prime Contractor program or to the U.S. military through our U.S. DoD Prime Contractor program.

Case study – Groupe Helios

Through the support of CCC and EDC, Groupe Helios will support the rehabilitation of the Guajimia storm and sanitary water sanitation system in the  Dominican Republic. The Project will involve the removal of waste; civil infrastructure works; and the construction of necessary residential units to house families that will be relocated by the storm and sanitary drainage works. 

Case study – Aecon

A contract for a new airport was signed between the City of Quito in Ecuador, and CCC. The US$415 million project was completed by Canada’s Aecon and Andrade Gutierrez Constructores – one of the largest construction companies in Brazil.

Aecon was also leveraged a government-to-government (G2G) contract between CCC and the Government of Bermuda, to deliver a new, world-class airport terminal and associated infrastructure for the L.F. Wade International Airport.

Case study – JV Driver

In partnership with CCC and through a government to government (G2G) contract, Canadian company JV Driver completed a second pier at Port Zante, St. Kitts & Nevis that can accommodate the new Oasis class mega cruise ships to meet the demands of the nation’s expanding tourism market.

JV Driver and CCC also collaborated on a $127M project in Ghana. The inland container terminal includes a container freight station, a warehouse, a car park, and an open area for unloading and for the storage of containers. Banking, customs and security services will be on-site for increased efficiency as an international shipping and receiving terminal.

Defence

CCC has been helping foreign defence departments, including the U.S. Department of Defence, to procure made-in-Canada solutions for over 65 years. Our depth of experience is reflected in the billion of dollars that we have facilitated through our U.S. DoD Prime Contractor and International Prime Contractor programs. 

Defence buyers need a variety of military and non-military goods. Here are some examples:  

  • Armoured vehicles and survivability systems
  • Special mission aircraft and aircraft missionization
  • Surface combatant, joint support and off-shore patrol ships
  • In-service support solutions
  • Intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance systems

Case study – Rolls Royce

The Government of Chile Ministry of Defence turned to the CCC and Rolls Royce for the purchase of Tyne RM1C Turbines for their aircrafts. 

Case study – Indal Technologies

We supported the sale of a  Recovery Assist, Secure and Traverse systems to support ship borne helicopter operations by Indal Technologies Inc. to the U.S. Navy.

Case study – Standard Aero

CCC signed a $70-million contract under the DPSA with the U.S. Navy for the refurbishing of 501-K34 turbine engines used on Arleigh Burke-class guide missile destroyers with Standard Aero.

Case study – Liftking Manufacturing

CCC signed a $30-million contract under the DPSA with the U.S. DoD for the sale of 6,000 shipboard approved forklifts with Ontario-based Liftking Manufacturing Corp.

Case study – Cascade Aviation

Contracted through CCC, Cascade Aerospace modernized an L-100 (C-130) Hercules aircraft for the Fuerza Aérea Mexicana (FAM). The program included the installation and integration of an advanced Rockwell Collins Flight2 digital avionics suite, and operational and technical training for Mexican Air Force personnel.

Case study – S&S Turbine Services

The Chilean Navy required the urgent overhaul and maintenance of RR marine turbines, and turned to CCC with Canadian company S&S Turbines Services to fulfil this need within 160 days.

ICT

Information and communications technology (ICT) companies face a number of obstacles when trying to sell their solutions to foreign governments. Some require unique solutions, and are comfortable buying individual components that can be integrated into their existing systems. Others want a complete solution that works right out of the box, and reduces implementation and operation risk. 

We work with Canadian companies to position their solutions with foreign governments and help to reduce procurement risk through our Government of Canada guarantee. Government buyers are looking for the following ICT solutions:

  • Cyber security (intrusion protection systems, critical infrastructure protection systems)
  • Voice, data and video networking solutions
  • Public safety and security solutions
  • Smart public infrastructure
  • Financial and regulatory technologies (FinTech . RegTech)
  • Simulation and training

Case study – EMS Honeywell

CCC facilitated a sale by EMS Honeywell to the U.S. DoD for an INMARSAT satellite communication  system which allows internet-type connections in aircrafts while in flight. The system supports essential naval air activities.

Case study – GDMS

Panama’s Ministry of Security needed a better way to monitor unfolding situations and accelerate the dispatch of first responders. CCC and General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS) were able to find a solution that met all of Panama’s technical criteria, providing computer-assisted dispatch, real-time officer location, and instant data transfer to identify license plates, faces and other information.

Case study – Bluedrop 

Through CCC, Bluedrop Performance Learning provided a virtual reality training simulator to the Royal Australian Air Force, allowing C-130J Hercules loadmasters to perform procedural training in a realistic and immersive virtual environment.

Agriculture

In addition to our core sectors, we support the sale of other products and services of pubic interest to  municipal, state and federal governments around the world. 

Case study – Canpotex

Over the years, CCC has signed several contracts with the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) for potash from Canpotex. Potash is critical to Bangladesh’s agricultural industry.

Case study – Canadian Bank Note

With CCC’s support, Canadian Bank Note supplied the Governments of Honduras and Nicaragua with national lottery systems that fund the countries’ health, social and educational programs.

Case study – Coulson Group

As major forest fires threatened the Chiquitania region, the Government of Bolivia called on Canada for an urgent solution. Working with Coulson Aircrane Ltd, we were able to assist by deploying two Sikorsky S-61 helicopters and a Chinook CH-47D heavy-lift helicopter to provide aerial firefighting capabilities. CCC actioned a contract in one week.

Case study – Allen Vanguard

The Colombia National Police was in dire need of chemical, biological, and nuclear (CBRN) first responder equipment. CCC and Allen Vanguard worked together to deliver this equipment for first class training.
