ITPS Canada: Industry-leading flight training

International Test Pilots School Canada (ITPS Canada) provides expert-led fixed and rotary wing flight test training for civilian and military professionals, delivering practical, up-to-date, and internationally enriched programs that prepare pilots and aeronautical engineers to contribute to the world’s most innovative aircraft.

About ITPS Canada

The International Test Pilots School (ITPS) was first established in the United Kingdom in 1986 and later relocated its operations to Canada, where it has been based at London International Airport (CYXU) in Ontario since 2001.

Over the years, ITPS has become one of only a few globally recognized experimental flight-test schools. Its programs have earned recognition from academic and regulatory bodies. Its core programs include full test-pilot and flight-test engineer courses for fixed and rotary wing aircraft, delivered to both military and civilian professionals.

The school also provides EASA-approved civil flight test training, specialist short courses such as UAS (Unmanned Aerial Systems) testing, and advanced instruction in avionics, systems testing, and performance and handling qualities evaluation. Beyond training, ITPS delivers consulting and contracted flight test services, supplying experienced test pilots, engineers, and analysts for a wide range of specialized projects.

Supporting these programs is a sophisticated training ecosystem that includes jet trainers, fighters, helicopters, and seaplanes, along with advanced simulation environments modelling aircraft such as the F-16, F/A-18, F-35, and Boeing 787.

ITPS also offers hybrid and online programs, enabling organizations to combine remote theoretical instruction with on-site flight testing. Its academic offerings include postgraduate degrees, such as a Master of Science in Flight Test Engineering, ensuring graduates receive both practical flight-test skills and advanced technical education.

G2G Contracts with Royal Netherlands Air Force

In 2024, CCC renewed its government to government (G2G) contract with the Royal Netherlands Air Force for ITPS’ Masters Test Pilot and Flight Test Engineer programs.

Under the contract, selected Dutch military pilots and engineers will participate in ITPS’s intensive 12-month training, which includes over 500 hours of academics, 120 flight hours, and hands-on experience with 15 aircraft types. Participants will join an international cohort as they develop the skills needed to test new aircraft, systems, and sensors, with the opportunity to earn a Master’s Degree in Flight Test Engineering.

Long history of serving allied air arms

Beyond the Netherlands, several allied governments and military organizations send their pilots and engineers to train at ITPS. The Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) relies on ITPS to support the development of its advanced flight test personnel.

The company has also trained pilots in the South African Air Force (SAAF), Ukrainian forces, Royal Malaysian Air Force, and Turkish Air Force.
