Lockheed Martin Canada: Defence and Aerospace Solutions

As Canada’s long-standing defence partner, Lockheed Martin Canada specializes in advanced technology systems, including naval combat systems, aircraft training, and radar systems. Read how Lockheed Martin Canada partnered with CCC to deliver various defence systems to the U.S. DoD and defence organizations in Europe.

About Lockheed Martin Canada

Headquartered in Ottawa, Lockheed Martin Canada is the Canadian unit of Lockheed Martin Corporation and has been one of Canada’s defence partners for over 80 years.

With more than 1,000 workers, Lockheed Martin Canada works on a wide range of major programs spanning the aerospace, defence, and commercial sectors. It has also partnered with the Canadian government, military, and industry on a variety of crucial defence and security programs, including:

  • CH-148 Cyclone Helicopter: Sikorsky, a Lockheed Martin company, and Canada’s Department of National Defence, lead a team that designed, built and configured the CH-148 Cyclone for anti-submarine warfare (ASW), anti-surface warfare (ASuW), maritime search and rescue (SAR), overland operations and utility missions.
  • CMS 330: CMS 330 is a next-generation Combat Management System developed for the Royal Canadian Navy. It is the “brain” of a naval ship’s combat system: integrating weapons, sensors, data, and other subsystems to provide situational awareness and decision support.

G2G Contract with German Navy for CMS 330

Under a government to government (G2G) export arrangement, Lockheed Martin Canada partnered with CCC to deliver the CMS 330 combat management system to the German Navy.

The CMS 330 is an open-architecture naval combat management system that fuses data from multiple shipboard and off-board sensors, such as radar, sonar, electronic warfare systems, and data links, into a common tactical picture. his fused operating environment enables operators to rapidly detect, track, classify, and assess air, surface, and subsurface threats, while supporting timely, coordinated decision-making across the command team.

Designed for operations in complex, multi-threat environments, CMS 330 supports both independent naval missions and coalition operations with allied navies. A key strength of the system is its modularity and scalability. Built on commercial off-the-shelf hardware and open standards, CMS 330 can be tailored to different classes of vessels and upgraded incrementally over time as new sensors, weapons, or software capabilities are introduced.

The system manages weapon assignment and engagement planning, supports mission planning and training modes, and enables interoperability with allied forces through standardized tactical data links. These capabilities have made CMS 330 an attractive long-term combat system solution for multiple navies, balancing advanced warfighting functionality with adaptability, lifecycle affordability, and reduced integration risk.

Under the arrangement, CCC acted as Canada’s contracting authority, signing the agreement directly with Germany’s defence procurement agency. Valued at more than C$1 billion, the contract covers the supply and integration of CMS 330 across multiple German Navy surface combatants.

G2G Contract with U.S. Air Force for Overhaul of F108 Engines

Lockheed Martin Canada has partnered with CCC on numerous occasions to deliver critical systems and services to the U.S. Department of Defense. One notable example is the collaboration to provide overhaul services for F108 engines used across the U.S. Air Force fleet.

The F108 engines power the KC-135R Stratotanker aerial refueling aircraft, a platform that has remained a cornerstone of U.S. global air mobility for decades. Given the aircraft’s long service history and continued strategic importance, the U.S. Air Force sought to sustain and extend the operational life of its F108 engines.

Lockheed Martin Canada’s overhaul work involved comprehensive inspections, replacement of worn or aging components, installation of updated parts to restore or enhance performance, and remediation of wear resulting from extensive flight hours accumulated over many years. Beyond ensuring operational readiness, these F108 engine overhauls delivered measurable benefits, including improved fuel efficiency, reduced maintenance costs, and extended engine service life by thousands of hours.
