CCC, W.R. Davis win U.S. DoD contract for helicopter anti-missile shield

September 12, 2024

Ottawa, CANADA – CCC is pleased to announce it was awarded a contract with the United States Department of Defense (U.S. DoD) for CH-47 Chinook infra-red (IR) suppressors manufactured by W.R. Davis Engineering (Davis). These IR suppressors are designed to shield Chinook helicopters from surface-to-air missiles (SAMs) that rely on infra-red guidance to detect and intercept an aircraft.

Based in Ottawa, Davis has developed state-of-the-art IR suppressors that make aircraft harder to get detected by infrared surveillance systems. As modern military operations increasingly depend on stealth, Davis’ innovations are vital for improving mission effectiveness and ensuring the safety of aircrews.

Davis will supply IR suppressor B-kits for Chinook helicopters to the DLA Aviation – Richmond. B-kit suppressors can be interchanged between aircraft, allowing a fleet to share them to suppressors that are permanently attached to an aircraft.

DLA Aviation is the demand and supply manager for the United States Army, which operates a fleet of Chinook helicopters around the globe. Chinooks are versatile and heavy-lifting helicopters that are used for everything from troop transport to medical evacuation. DLA Aviation plays a crucial role in the procurement, storage, and distribution of aviation-related supplies. It spends approximately $12 billion a year to sustain the air readiness and operational capabilities of the U.S. Army.

CCC is the designated contracting authority for U.S. DoD purchases from Canada over USD $250,000. Through its U.S. DoD Prime Contractor service, CCC supports Canadian businesses to supply the U.S. DoD with made-in-Canada solutions. To date, CCC and W.R. Davis Engineering have collaborated on contracts with the U.S. military worth over $60 million (CAD).
