Contract with U.S. Navy

ATCS project

In July 2020, Ultra I&C was awarded through CCC a 10 year, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract with a ceiling value of $145 million dollars, and an initial order of $26.8 million dollars. The contract is for the development, production, spares and services in support of the Amphibious Tactical Communications System (ATCS) project.

The ATCS project aims to leverage core technologies from Ultra’s ORION radio/networking systems to meet the challenging requirements of shipboard maritime environments.

ATCS project seeks to provide state-of-the-art, long-range wireless communications capability between the Navy’s L-Class (Landing Craft) Ships and Marine Corps MRC-142D shore systems operated by the Marine Air-Ground Task Force (MAGTF). The ATCS project will also support humanitarian and disaster response operations.

Contract with U.S. Army

TRILOS program

In 2019, Ultra I&C secured through CCC an indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract worth up to $500 million dollars. The five year contract supplied Ultra’s ORION radio systems to the U.S. Army’s Terrestrial Transmission Line of Sight (TRILOS) Radio Program. TRILOS bolsters communication capabilities in  environments without satellite access.

Ultra’s ORION radio system enhances the communications capabilities of military units by providing higher levels of data throughput at extended ranges, including critical areas at the tactical edge. Think about a big pipe that is able to move data across the battle space. ORION is the fourth generation of high capacity radio systems that Ultra has delivered to the U.S. Department of Defense over a period spanning five decades.

To date, Ultra has sold more than 50,000 tactical radios and has provided tactical communications capability for the U.S. Army TRILOS, Patriot missile system, IAMD and U.S. Navy ATCS programmes, among many others. These deployments include ground-to-ground, air-to-ground, ship-to-ship and ship-to-shore communications applications.

Made in Canada solution

The Orion Radio was developed under a research loan provided under Canada’s Strategic Aerospace and Defence Initiative (SADI) – which provides repayable contributions to support research and development (R&D) projects in the aerospace, space, defence and security (A&D) sectors.

The ORION radio system was first supplied to the U.S. Government’s TRILOS program in 2017 as a modernized replacement of the High Capacity Line of Sight (HCLOS) system supplied under a previous contract. ORION has evolved to become a U.S. Government “Program of Record”, making it a go-to-solution for the country’s military. Orion radios currently provide the communications backbone in both the U.S. Army and the Marine Corps.

Orion radios provide the communications backbone in both the U.S. Army and the Marine Corps and soon will provide critical capabilities for the U.S. Navy.
